There is nothing like cozying up in my favorite blue chair with a good book and a fresh pot of tea. More and more I have been pushing myself to enjoy life, and set aside some leisurely time to do things I enjoy. And the number one thing I love to do is read. So here are a few books I am reading/ or read for the month of March:

The United States of Kindness

Hope all is well dear readers,

This week has turned out to be very productive, inspirational, and somewhat frustrating. Productiveness has come in the way of a sparkling clean house, full of fresh spring air. Inspiration revealed itself by me looking within myself. And Frustration, well it sort of built itself up from many unpleasing and yes, even sad situations. With that said, I’ve chose not to focus on the latter in a negative way, but instead take it as many lessons learned.

Each day I have made it my goal to try and understand others around me, and not be left in the darkness of ignorance. However, it never fails that I come across many others not willing to do same. And this leaves me feeling both disheartened and and inspired once again. My heart feels sad because I know like many others, what it feels like not to be clearly understood. On the same token my spirit feels inspired to be better and listen. Hopefully I’m not sounding repetitive, but the point I am trying to make is that we as humans need to do more to both understand and inspire one and other.

As I laid back in my chair the other day, enjoying the fresh afternoon breeze, a thought came to mind. I thought of how beautiful life would be, or better yet this country, if we all came together united in the name of kindness. Hence the title “ The United States of Kindness”. We americans pride ourselves on being number one at many things, but how awesome would it be if we were number one in the world for showing kindness toward one and other. How beautiful would it be if we could put our political and religious views aside for one second and engage in a friendly conversation with someone from the opposite side of the room. It would be even more grand if we could all shake hands, and realize that the person standing before us is a human being who deserves to be loved and treated kindly.

Okay, so yes I know I am dreaming. Possibly living in a fairy tale world if judged by others, but my heart is overjoyed at the thought. My inner being won’t give up hope for such a beautiful happy moment, and just the mere thought of my America being a leader in kindness brightens my day.

Well dear readers, I’m done with todays PSA and the soap box is back in the closet. Please continue to keep all of our brothers and sisters around the world in your prayers, and if the moment arises lend a helping hand.

The Magic and Blessings of Ordinary Days

Greetings Friends,

My how the days have flown by. It’s hard to believe January has come and gone and pretty soon the first signs of spring will be upon us (albeit hard to believe). I’ve spent many of these blustery winter days enjoying hot Jasmine Tea, and music that warmed my soul. Mornings have been spent reading words of inspiration, peacefully meditating, writing words of endearment and practicing a lost art. Every morning I have made the commitment to practice ornamental penmanship and take the time to write letters and greetings to friends. These moments in life have brought a since of calmness, happiness, and peace to my life, and much joy to those on the receiving end.

I have also spent many afternoons and evenings sharing my love of Scrapbooking with my students and having true fellowship. It warms my heart that these creative spirits are gracious enough to allow me to lend them a hand as they create memories. It’s so refreshing to see people interact in kind way with each other and share stories of love, laughter, triumph and yes, Grace!

I’ve also been lost in time with a wonderful novel called Noah’s Wife by T.K. Thorne. Words can’t express my love for this book. It reminds me of a series of books I read in grade school about a young woman named Shabanu, except the heroine in this novel is Na’amah, Noah’s Wife. If you have a chance this is a great book to read, but be warned you will not be able to sit it down. And did anyone else get to see The Lost Valentine? What a sweet movie. My heart was just bursting with love after seeing it, and everyday since then I have received news of friends and Sugar Pies who have found true love, gotten married, and have had or are having babies. Anyone else think love is in the air?

I encourage you all to take some time out of the hustle and bustle of life, and write a letter to a friend or someone that may just need some positive words of encouragement. You may even try writing a letter to yourself. Take time and speak from your heart and share your thoughts. But most of all, enjoy the magical warm feelings and blessings of Ordinary Days.

Musings at Mill Race

This beautiful Victorian home is where I spent many days lazying away on the porch swing, and allowing my imagination to get lost in various novels. The creek running behind the house offered a natural lulling affect, while an abundance of shade trees offered a small shield from the hot sun.

On the other side of the home was a garden to die for. Every type of herb, vegetable, and flower ones heart could desire was growing here. Being a lover of summer gardens and roses, I couldn't help but wish and click my vintage heels together in hopes that this magnificent garden would be mine ( a girl can dream right?).

After spending a few hours in the village each day, I would peacefully walk out, but not before stopping here. This is The New School Church. I would peak through the whitewash windows, imagining all the towns people gathered praying, planning, and learning.

I Heart June Cleaver

Hello Darlings,

It's been so long since I've posted that I hardly know what to say. Shall I start with "I'm sorry"or perhaps "I've missed you"? It's so very true, I really have missed our fun conversations, and gal pal goodness. For the past few months I have been dealing with a lot of changes. Some happy and some not so much. But all in good favor.

As you may have noticed in the events section, I've began teaching again. That's right dears, I'm back teaching scrapbook classes for Michael's and EK Success. But that's not all. I have recently been offered the chance to teach 4 new jewelry classes at Michael's. Can you believe it? I'm over the moon (petticoats swaying)! Any who, at the end of this month I will be hosting two bead events that are sure to be lots of fun. I would love for all of you to join me.

With that said, I'm sure you ladies were sad to learn of the passing of Barbara Billingsley (June Cleaver) just as I was. Not only was she a great woman in real life, but the best darn T.V. mom to ever exist. Her style and grace, although fictional inspired me tremendously. Growing up watching reruns of Leave it to Beaver provided me with dreamy safe haven. June Cleaver taught me that it's okay to be pretty and feminine, and that a simple strand of pearls can be paired with almost any outfit.

In a day and age where simplicity and grace are frowned upon, I am thankful to Barbara Billingsley for bringing the role of June Cleaver to life, and leaving us all with rerun memories to hold near and dear to our hearts.

Sassy Retro Wrap.........

Hello Friends, I have yet another project to share with you. Yes, it's another Butterick retro wrap dress. Only this time, it's done up a lot more sassier. I used princess seams to create figure flattering curves, and Retro Style fabric for a more vintage look. Instead of using button closures I used snaps, even on the inner dress. Overall the pattern was easy to work with and required a few minor alterations. As many of you dolls may notice, I also shortened the inner dress to create more depth. I am also working on a vintage style slip to wear underneath the dress, and looking for a lightweight cardigan to wear with it on cool summer nights.

P.s. You ladies have to excuse the horrid lighting in my picture. The sun snuck back into hiding before I could get outside.

Another Pretty Little Ditty......

Hello Darlings!, look what I have to share. It's my Anne Adams 4731 dress. What do you think of the yellow Rosie Dots fabric? I think it screams picnic in July! As many of you know I have been trying to make my way over to Sew Retro, and deliver my first post. Well it's finally done! As of now I can add the title "Contributing Writer" to my list of many other names (like Cook, Cleaner, Warden, lol). With that said, I will be updating the site next week with information about a super cool contest I will be hosting . And yes, it does involve fabric and patterns. Sorry I can't tell you more. It would ruin the surprise! Please take a look at the Bobbi Hairstyle video I posted below, if you haven't. It's a really helpful video for those looking to have vintage style hair to match their vintage style outfits. Well, I'm off to finish up yet another project. I will post more pictures as soon as the sun comes out to play again.

Ypsilanti Farmers Market

Yesterday was the first day of the Ypsilanti Farmers Market, and we had a blast. A pretty large number of people came out to support and patronize local vendors. Our new line of handmade note cards and greetings made there debut at the market, along with our line of gift tags and tons of new vintage style hair pins. Overall we had a great day and made many new friends from the surrounding communities. The market is every tuesday May-October and we plan to be there as long as the weather permits.
